Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,100m (1,400m to 2,500m)

What to Expect: Start the trek after registration at Momella Gate. Walk through lush rainforest trails with chances to see wildlife such as giraffes, colobus monkeys, and buffalo. Enjoy views of waterfalls, open grasslands, and the park’s unique flora and fauna.

Dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,050m (2,500m to 3,550m)

What to Expect: Trek through thinning forest and enter the moorland zone with open views of Mount Meru’s crater and Ash Cone. Stop at Elephant Ridge for breathtaking panoramas. Optional afternoon hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization and spectacular sunset views. Overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 3: Summit Attempt and Descend to Miriakamba Hut

Distance: 14 km (8.7 miles) total (4 km ascent, 10 km descent)
Hiking Time: 8–10 hours (4–6 hours ascent, 4–6 hours descent)
Elevation Gain/Loss: +1,016m (3,550m to 4,566m) / -1,066m (4,566m to 2,500m)

What to Expect: Midnight departure for the summit via Rhino Point and Cobra Point, leading to Socialist Peak (4,566m). Witness a stunning sunrise and panoramic views from the summit. Descend back to Saddle Hut for a rest and meal, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut for the night.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 2–3 hours
Elevation Loss: -1,100m (2,500m to 1,400m)

What to Expect: A leisurely descent through forest trails, with chances to spot birds and other wildlife. Arrive at Momella Gate, where certificates are awarded, and transfer back to Arusha.

Tips to the climbing crew
Medical equipment which can be rented well in advance for the following costs: $250/group for hyperbaric chamber, $210/group for an emergency oxygen cylinder and $140/group for a stretcher. Please note these prices include a porter to carry the equipment.
Portable toilets: If you are concerned about using public toilets, a portable toilet is available for an extra $110/person or $180/group. This service must be confirmed at the time of booking.
