7 Days Northern Tanzania Cycling Tour

Experience the diverse landscapes and cultures of Northern Tanzania on this exhilarating 7-day cycling adventure. From the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, each day offers a unique blend of challenging rides and immersive cultural encounters.

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a representative will greet you and transfer you to your accommodation in Moshi. Here, you’ll receive a briefing about the upcoming tour and have the opportunity to prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Moshi to West Kilimanjaro (Approximately 70 km)

Today’s ride begins on the southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, passing through verdant coffee and banana plantations. As you progress westward, the scenery transitions to open plains and acacia woodlands. The route comprises both dirt and tarmac roads, culminating at the Olpopongi Maasai Village, where you’ll spend the night and engage with the Maasai culture.

Day 3: West Kilimanjaro to Moshi (Approximately 80 km)

Cycling through the Ngasurai open plains, recognized as migratory paths for elephants traveling to and from Kenya’s Amboseli National Park, you’ll eventually merge onto the main tarmac road leading back to Moshi. En route, you’ll pass quaint villages with Mount Meru gracing the backdrop. The day’s journey concludes at your Moshi accommodation.

Day 4: Moshi to Tarangire National Park (Approximately 120 km)

Embarking on the longest ride of the tour, you’ll traverse numerous villages, towns, and expansive plains predominantly on tarmac roads. After covering the main stretch, a detour onto a dirt road will lead you to a campsite situated on the periphery of Tarangire National Park, renowned for housing Tanzania’s largest elephant populations.

Day 5: Tarangire to Lake Manyara (Approximately 85 km)

The morning ride retraces a short distance to the main road before diverting onto a dirt path toward Lake Manyara. This region is teeming with wildlife and dotted with numerous Maasai villages. Following the dirt trail, you’ll rejoin the tarmac road leading to Mto wa Mbu town, eventually arriving at Migunga Tented Camp for the night.

Day 6: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater (Approximately 60 km)

Prepare for the most demanding yet rewarding segment of the tour. Starting on a dirt road, you’ll transition to tarmac, passing the entry gate of Lake Manyara National Park. A challenging ascent up the Great Rift Valley escarpment offers breathtaking vistas. The day’s ride culminates at the entrance of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll be transferred to the Ngorongoro Farm House (or a similar establishment) for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy a leisurely morning before your transfer back to the airport. En route, there’s an opportunity to visit the town of Mto wa Mbu, where you can purchase souvenirs to commemorate your Tanzanian adventure.
